The practice of buying and selling using a down payment system has long been a custom in Sayutan Village. In this system, the buyer pays a down payment as part of the price; if the transaction is canceled, the down payment becomes the property of the seller. This study is a field research. The results indicate that this practice is in accordance with Islamic law and the DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 13/DSN-MUI/IX/2000, because it meets the requirements and pillars of buying and selling and is permitted by Islamic scholars, with the provision that down payments in the sale and purchase agreement are permissible (jawaz).
